Why has the EU introduced this new tyre label regulation?
To provide transparent and consistent information on the environmental impact of the tyre through fuel efficiency and external
rolling noise and the safety performance of tyres through wet grip performance. This allows all tyres to be compared at the
time of purchase so that an informed decision can be made.
When and where can I find the EU tyre label?
It is compulsory from 1st November 2012, but encouraged to be applied sooner wherever possible. All new tyres being displayed must
have a sticker with the tyre label on or close to it. If the tyre is not on display, the EU tyre regulation label’s
information should be provided before a purchase is made for all tyres being considered. Information explaining the label should
also be readily available.
Are the rules the same in every country?
The rules are the same in all European Member States. This is a European Regulation that will become directly applicable and binding
throughout the European Union.
In what form will the tyre label be presented?
The tyre label, as conforming to the EC 1222/2009 regulations, can either be provided as a sticker on the tyre tread or a printed label
with each batch of identical tyres delivered.
Does the tyre label have to be displayed in a specific format?
Yes. Please see http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2009:342:0046:0058:EN:PDF LINK for detailed information.
